The diversity scholarships are available to British citizens or those who have the right to work/study in the UK and are currently doing so. Applications are only open to those aged 18+.  For student applicants, you need to be currently studying in higher education or undertaking further education towards a vocational qualification in journalism or media. You need to be a member of the ABSW to apply. You can, of course, join the ABSW in order to be eligible.

You will need to meet one of the following diversity criteria to apply:

  • You have a disability as defined in the UK Equality Act of 2010;
  • You are a carer;
  • Your home is in a region included in the 'most deprived 20%' of your government's index of multiple deprivation (IMD) database.

Applications can also be made by those currently suffering financial hardship, for whom attendance at the ECSJ will assist their future career and financial stability.

Please complete our application form by noon on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.  You will receive an email confirmation of your application and will be informed whether or not you have been successful by Wednesday, 2 September 2026.  If you are not successful, you will still be able to register to attend the ECSJ at early bird prices which are open until the end of September 2026.
