Next meeting: Tuesday, 14 July 2026, at 13h30 (UK time)

Ever wondered how to pitch your ideas to editors? Or how to turn a spark of inspiration into a story that fits the brief?

Join our informal lunchtime pitching session in Discord’s ABSW Coffee Shop to chat with Mun-Keat Looi, senior editor and former ABSW board member. It’s a relaxed space to ask questions, test out ideas, and get honest feedback on your pitches — whether you’re still shaping them or ready to go.

These one-hour sessions run every other month, on the second Tuesday (13:30–14:30 BST):

  • 14 July

  • 8 September [TBC]

  • 10 November [TBC]

You don’t need to bring a finished pitch — just curiosity and enthusiasm. It’s a great chance to learn what editors look for and to build confidence in presenting your ideas.

ABSW also welcomes voluntary contributions from members for its website, including news pieces and resource articles written for the science-journalism community, like how science journalists can cover those stories, the tools they can use, or tips you gathered at some training or conference. Contributors receive a byline, editorial feedback from a senior editor, and a published piece to add to their portfolio.
