The ABSW board is running a short benchmark to understand the current status quo of board service among members. If you currently serve (or have recently served) on any board (charity, company, advisory, public body, HE/governance, etc.), could you reply with any information? Even a couple of bullet points would help! We will appreciate as little or as much information you can provide.

These are the kinds of areas we are looking for info on:

  • Type of board/sector: (feel free to anonymise the organisation)

  • Your role: trustee, NED, advisory, chair, etc.

  • Time commitment: meetings per year, prep time, committee work, ad-hoc tasks, travel

  • Remuneration (if any): stipend/day rate/per-meeting honorarium/expenses only—ballpark figures are fine

  • Term length/renewal norms: e.g., 3×3-year terms, rolling, etc.

  • Typical expectations: e.g., fundraising, media duties, policy oversight, advisory roles

  • Support provided / costs: training, D&O insurance, and any out-of-pocket expenses

  • What feels “standard practice” in your sector

We’ll collate responses and share an anonymised snapshot with members.
